Can Invisalign be used in conjunction with other treatments?

Patients that have existing dental work that can include veneers or crowns can often wonder if Invisalign is a possible tooth straightening option for them. Our Langley dentists discuss how adults with other treatments may still be able to alter their teeth with Invisalign.

Your dentist may suggest Invisalign as a treatment option to help straighten your teeth and improve your bite if you have crooked teeth, mild crowding, complex bite problems, sleep apnea, or another orthodontic issue.

Many adults are deciding to straighten their teeth later in life and so are more likely to have advanced dental work including crowns, implants and veneers.

Fortunately, Invisalign still may be an option for you if you've already had one of these additional treatments.

What Impact Do Missing Teeth Have On My Smile?

Even though tooth loss is a fairly common issue, it has serious repercussions for your oral health. Along with the obvious issue of leaving a gap in your mouth, missing teeth can lead to your bite and remaining teeth becoming out of alignment. Another possibility is bone thinning.

The severity of wrinkles may gradually increase. Fortunately, you might still be a candidate for Invisalign even if you've had procedures like dental crowns or others to replace missing teeth.

Invisalign If You Have Crowns

If you have dental crowns or bridges and are thinking about getting Invisalign, you and your dentist might run into a few issues. Candidates for Invisalign should have teeth with strong roots as well as crowns that are securely fastened to their teeth.

You won't need to have brackets on your teeth if you use Invisalign, which can help prevent the problem of a crown coming loose or detaching. Additionally, a transparent attachment to guard your tooth's crown may be suggested by your dentist.

Invisalign If You Have Veneers

Do you want to alter a tooth's size, shape, or colour? Veneers made of porcelain might be your best course of action. Your teeth look more symmetrical thanks to these individually fitted cosmetic dental restorations.

However, if you are also having problems with your teeth's alignment, your dentist might suggest Invisalign to straighten your teeth, as well as address any bite or misalignment issues that might arise after you've had dental veneers.

Invisalign might be an option if your veneers are securely bonded and have kept your teeth solid and healthy. The dentist might advise attachments to make the veneers fit more snugly. As veneers can restrict tooth and bite movement, ask your dentist if this will be a problem.

Invisalign If You Have Dental Implants

You might need dental implants as part of your treatment plan, depending on the results of your dentist's examination. However, some patients' jawbones need more support or are deteriorating before implants can be placed.

If necessary, it might be possible to coordinate the Invisalign and dental implant treatments. Depending on your needs, your dental team will need to decide the best order for you. Remember that the dental implant will last a lifetime.

The dentist can create a treatment plan for you that addresses your needs, including the remaining teeth around the dental implant, to help you achieve a straighter smile.

Because each case is unique, you should discuss your best options for correcting your orthodontic and other issues with your dentist.
