How to Keep Your Teeth White After Whitening Treatment

How to Keep Your Teeth White After Whitening Treatment

After you've had a professional teeth whitening treatment, you’ll probably want to keep your smile looking beautifully white! Here are a few tips from our Langley dentists.

Brush & Floss Thoroughly

Brushing and flossing regularly and sufficiently is key to keeping your teeth white. Your oral hygiene routine will help you remove surface stains and keep them from setting in. To keep your teeth white, and healthy, brush twice daily for two minutes at a time, and floss your teeth at least once a day.

It's important to be extremely thorough! Gently brush all four quadrants of your mouth, and don’t stop until you have completed two full minutes of brushing. An electric toothbrush with a round rotating head can really help with this process. Some models of electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is up.

Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks

Over time, dark pigmented foods and drinks can cause tooth discolouration. Coffee, tea, dark berries and even spices like curry should be consumed in moderation in order to avoid staining your teeth.

Quit Smoking

If you need yet another reason to quit smoking, here it is. Smoking can discolour teeth like nothing else. Smoking stains teeth yellow or even brown over time.

Keep your smile sparkling white, toss those smokes in the garbage can now!

Occasional Touch Ups

Gradually the effects of your whitening treatment may wear off. When this happens, it may be time for a touch up. Great news, you can re-use the whitening trays you already have, and just order some more of the whitening solution.
