Orthodontic & Braces Treatment in Langley

Straightening Your Smile

In addition to trying to straighten your teeth and giving you a beautiful smile, orthodontic treatment can have other potential benefits.

Orthodontic treatment can be an opportunity to also improve the functionality of the teeth and bite, correct facial imbalance, facilitate better oral hygiene, properly prepare for restorations and/or implants, help sleep, and boost self-esteem.

Thanks to technological advancements, orthodontics has come a long way. At Willowbrook Dental Clinic, we use the most recent technology, such as a 3D scanner, which eliminates the need for gooey impression materials that are not popular with patients.

Plus, we have a range of options – including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign – that help us meet the unique needs of each client.

Our Approach

We want our patients to experience orthodontics differently. At North Burnaby Dental Group, our goal is to work with our patients to achieve the healthy, beautiful smile that they desire. That’s why we’ve developed a unique collaborative approach that allows us to customize each patient’s treatment plan using the most advanced techniques.

The first step is to come in for a consultation. When you come in for your first appointment, we will go over your concerns with your smile and then discuss all your treatment options so that you can c

The Treatment Process

There are a number of phases or steps to orthodontic treatment. Dr. Couto will guide you through each step, starting with a plan for your treatment. Timing of your full treatment will be decided with the planning phase.

  • ACTIVE PHASE

While you are receiving your orthodontic treatment, you'll come to our office for regular adjustment appointments (typically every 3 weeks or so).

For regular or ceramic braces treatment, the elastics and/or wires will be adjusted during these appointments.

For Invisalign Clear Aligner treatment, we will try and ensure that your aligner trays are doing what they are supposed to.

If you are wearing braces, you may need to avoid certain foods during treatment.

With both braces and Invisalign, you will want to continue excellent dental hygiene practices and keep up with at-home care to try and ensure you stay on track with treatment and that your teeth are straightened as scheduled.

Specific instructions based on your orthodontic treatment will be provided to you.

Bring any questions or concerns you may have to your appointments. We can help you fully understand the treatment process.

  • PLANNING PHASE

At your first appointments, we will review your unique situation and start planning your orthodontic treatment.

    Your first appointments may include:

    • An evaluation of your medical and dental history
    • Taking "molds" or impressions of your teeth
    • X-Rays of the teeth and jaws
    • A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scan

After these are completed, we will then make your, custom braces or Invisalign clear aligners to meet your unique needs.

  • RETENTION PHASE

Once you've completed active treatment, you will move into a post-treatment phase with retainers.

Typically, removable retainers help to maintain the changes to your teeth that happened during active treatment.

You'll need to wear your retainer as directed by your Orthodontist to help stabilize your teeth and bone in their new positions.

The duration of your treatment time with ceramic or metal braces and a retainer will vary depending on your specific circumstances and factors.

Orthodontics For Children

We typically recommend that all children see an orthodontist once they turn 7 years old, because there are orthodontic problems that can be addressed or planned for if they are detected early.

If your child does not need early treatment, we will monitor their growth and development on a regular basis as part of our recall program. This waiting gives us the opportunity to advise you when to start treatment.

Orthodontics For our Adult Patients

There is no age limit for a beautiful healthy smile. Over the last decade, orthodontic treatment has become very popular with adults.

If you have always thought of having orthodontic treatment but did not pursue it because you didn’t want traditional braces, talk to us.

We invite you to come in for a consultation to find out if you are a candidate for treatment with Invisalign clear aligners, which are made of clear plastic.
